The Millennium celebrations were just ahead. Time to get away to somewhere hot and relaxing - Key West. This was the second in a series of vacations taken in the week before Christmas for the Mackey family. The first was to Berlin in 1998 and the next was to Grand Cayman in 2000. We were joined on this trip by my parents, George and Dorothy Mackey. We spent a good deal of our time at the pool and in the ocean. Key West is a small island, so I rented a scooter one day to look around. Our sightseeing included the southernmost point in the continental US and the lighthouse in town. The third picture below is the view from the lighthouse. The real story in Key West is having a good time. We spent a lot of time on Duval Street at places like the Hog's Breath Saloon and Sloppy Joes, a great bar with live entertainment all day. Every evening is "Sunset Fest" at Mallory Square, with street performers at the cruise ship dock. After dark, the trip back to the hotel can be done in a bicycle cart. Just before Christmas we all headed back home. Below is a picture of Ben and Craig with Grandma by the Christmas tree in the lobby of our hotel, the Wyndham Casa Marina. |
